Don't slip up in the end-of-summer rush! - Accounting deadlines and to-dos (August-September 2025)

A minimalist office setup featuring a planner, clipboard, card, and pen, perfect for planning and organisation.

Late August and early September is a critical time for businesses. It is a time to focus not only on routine monthly tasks, but also on important quarterly and half-yearly deadlines. Our aim is to bring together the most important dates and tasks in one place so that you can face the autumn season with confidence, without delays and penalties.

August tasks: monthly routine and KATA return

Although August is a time for many people to relax, there are two important dates to keep in mind when it comes to accounting.

20 August: the day for monthly returns and payments
For our customers who are obliged to file a monthly VAT return, this is a well-known regular date. This is the deadline for submitting the VAT return for the month of July, as well as the employer and payer information (contributions and taxes payable on wages). We work with you to ensure that these are prepared and submitted on time, but it is important that you are aware of this and have the necessary funds in your bank account to make the payments.

25 August: deadline for ‘KATA’ returns

This deadline applies to self-employed persons who opt for KATA taxation as a sideline. This is the date by which the KATA return for the second quarter of 2025 (1 April - 30 June) must be submitted to the NAV. This return reports the income earned and is particularly important for those whose income approaches HUF 3 million per partner or HUF 18 million per year.

September preparations: focus on business tax!

September is the last month of the third quarter, and it also brings a very important half-yearly commitment that many people tend to forget.

15 September: advance payment of local business tax (HIPA)

This is one of the most important tax deadlines of the year for almost all businesses! This is the deadline for paying the second half-yearly advance payment of local business tax to the municipality where you are established (or have a permanent establishment). The amount of the advance payment is based on the previous year's tax return. It is very important that the payment is made on time, as municipalities may impose a penalty for late payment.

Advance payments of corporation tax (TAO) and small business tax (KIVA)

Businesses that are subject to TAO or KIVA may also have advance tax payments due during the quarter. The exact timing of this may vary from company to company, but as we approach the end of the third quarter, it is worth being prepared for this too.

Preparing to close Q3

The third quarter of the year ends on 30 September. This means that quarterly VAT return filers will soon have to file their returns for the July-September period (the deadline is 20 October). To ensure a smooth close, please send us your September invoices and receipts as soon as possible.

Our tips for a stress-free period

To ensure that the end of summer and early autumn is a financially smooth one, please note the following:

Send supporting documents on time: accurate and timely returns are based on the invoice and bank statement we receive from you on time. Please don't leave it to the last minute to send your documents.

Check your bank account: before the deadlines, make sure that the entrepreneur's account has the necessary funds to transfer taxes and contributions.

Communicate with us: If there have been any significant changes to your company during the summer (e.g. new activity, major investment, change of ownership), please let us know as this may affect your tax liabilities.

Meeting deadlines is the basis for financial discipline and sound operations. We work to take this burden off your shoulders and ensure that all returns, data and payments are made on time and in the correct form.
